The first mover advantage is especially critical in green
strategy. The key to profiting from green strategy is the image created
for the firm. The firms which follow suit will be seen as imitators,
merely jumping on the band wagon.
On the other hand, the environmental first mover will
be able to create its image as a sincere environmental activist.
Not withstanding, most firms still approach environmental concerns as
constraints to be managed, rather than as market opportunities to be
exploited. Few firms begin explicit integration of environmental issues
into their strategy.
